Money earned through illicit means is often referred to a ‘dirty’ money. Criminals will attempt to clean that money by transferring it through numerous accounts and transactions until the proceeds appear legal. This process is called money laundering. The transportation of cash across borders is one of the oldest forms of money laundering and is still widely used today.
